Private investors acquired the patented Unity Technology in August 2005 and formed Unity Envirotech LLC. A new management team initially focused on validating and improving the technology, in collaboration with leading independent testing laboratories. The team is now developing strategically located facilities in the United States, and forming relationships for worldwide use of the technology.
Unity Envirotech serves two distinctly different markets – the North American commercial fertilizer market, and thousands of municipal wastewater treatment plants. In North America, farmers consume about 54 million tons of fertilizer per year, valued at about $15 billion. Wastewater treatment plants in North America generate about 50 million wet tons of residuals each year. Residuals generators annually incur about $3 billion in external costs for residuals management.
Unity provides a unique regional solution for off-site conversion of municipal wastewater residuals into Unity Fertilizer, a sterilized, odor-free beneficial reuse product. The organically enhanced fertilizer granules move seamlessly through existing transport, storage and blending systems in world-wide commercial fertilizer markets. Extensive research and laboratory testing confirms that Unity Fertilizer releases less nitrogen to groundwater and the atmosphere than other commercial fertilizers, reducing damage to the environment. The product increases nitrogen efficiency in plant root-zones, resulting in higher quality crops and increased yields.
