North American municipalities are looking for better residuals management solutions. Application of wastewater residuals to the land is being curtailed because of concerns about odors, pathogens, ground water contamination and metal concentrations. Market values of first generation Class A beneficial reuse products are decreasing due to odors, pathogens, combustion, and limited markets. Cities need solutions that will convert residuals into sustainable, valuable products with no trailing liabilities.
Unity provides a regional solution for off-site conversion of municipal wastewater residuals into Unity Fertilizer, a sterilized, odor-free, beneficial reuse product. Tests by independent laboratories prove the product is not combustible, and that its physical properties match or exceed industry standards. These organically enhanced fertilizer granules move seamlessly through existing transport, storage and blending systems in world-wide commercial fertilizer markets.
Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection recently issued a permit to construct and operate a Unity Fertilizer plant in Polk County. The facility will process up to 100,000 dry tons of residuals per year, at concentrations ranging from 13 to 28 percent. The site provides convenient access from wastewater plants serving two thirds of Florida’s population.
Residuals arriving at the plant by truck and rail will be unloaded inside air-tight buildings, into enclosed live-bottom hoppers. Screw conveyors and pumps will move the residuals through our proprietary Residuals Conditioning Process. This process stabilizes odor producing compounds and eliminates the potential for a combustible product. It also significantly reduces viscosity, assuring trouble-free pumping to our fertilizer granulation process. more...
